Restorative Justice
The juvenile justice system is a frustrating system because it is allowing people who don't know the consequences of their actions, according to Mark Almanza Barrera-Gonzalez L (2014).
"If you are a 17 year old charged with a felony you’re going to have a conviction in which you can’t get a job anymore for the rest of your life and that’s a lot longer than if you’re a 35 year old. If you’re 35 and live to be 70 that’s 35 years with a following conviction, if you’re 17 and live to be 70 that’s 53 years with having a felony conviction and the point is that that stigma, that label never goes away - it’s permanent" (Barrera-Gonzalez, L., 204) With labels like felon, you are less likely to get a job after coming out of jail, and this leads to dependency on others and also to poverty. It is also more likely for you to get a job after a felony conviction if you are not of colored race, many of the children who are arrested are from under privileged communities. |
